2nd Healthiest County in Florida

Healthiest County in FloridaCollier County ranked 2nd healthiest county in Florida for the third year in row according to 2016 rankings by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  Lee County came in at 16th this year up from 20th last year.  The healthiest county in the state is St. Johns County.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute looks at a number of health factors, such as longevity, premature death, babies with low birth weight and overall mental and physical health days.  They also take into account lifestyle habits such physical activity, smoking and obesity.

Overall, Collier saw improvement in 18 measurements, 12 were unchanged and five worsened.

Collier County Statistics:

  • Obesity Rate – 19%
  • Smoking Rate – 14%
  • Physical Inactivity Rate – 18%
  • Excessive Drinking Rate – 18%
  • Unemployment Rate – 5.9%

Lee County Statistics:

  • Obesity Rate – 26%
  • Smoking Rate – 16%
  • Physical Inactivity Rate – 24%
  • Excessive Drinking Rate – 20%
  • Unemployment Rate – 6%
